Subject: Please Call Home

Dear Mr. President:

I would like to make a personal request.  Please call your mother for some advice.  I have heard both John Ashcroft and your mother speak.  Your Mom seems like a genuinely wonderful and compassionate person.  John Ashcroft seems like a brilliant but narrow-minded and prejudiced man.  Please ask your mother whether its time to get rid of John.  A quiet resignation without fanfare would do.

From his ideas of limiting our freedoms after September 11, to his office getting involved in the social battle over gay unions (You would be much better off staying out of that one in my opinion.) Mr. Ashcroft has been a negative and dangerous part of your administration.  I hope his time is up.  I wouldn't doubt that he would advise you next to declare domestic war on gay people.  Please don't, by the way.

I know I have little if any influence on you in these matters, but I have always liked your Mom as a person with wisdom and heart.  Please call her.  I know your parents don't want to be overly involved in your administration, but this is important enough to break that rule just this once.  My guess is she helped form the compassionate side of your nature.  I also think she might just tend to agree with me. (Your dad tended to stay out of divisive social issues as well, by the way.)

Thanks for your consideration of my somewhat tongue-in-cheek request, but a genuine and sincere one nonetheless.  May God bless you, and God save All Americans.
